Product designer vs UX designer

According to various salary aggregate websites, product designers tend to have slightly higher average salaries than UX designers globally.

Digital Product Designer

Generally involved in the entire design process of a product, including brainstorming, UX, project management, customer experience and business-related processes.

Past experience can include UX design, leading projects, and collaborating with other teams.

Product designers tend to be more business-oriented. This might manifest in working more closely with business or product teams than a typical UX designer might, and ensuring business needs are met in a finished product.

UX Designer

Designs with a focus on making products pleasant to use and navigate. Generally has a more narrow focus than product designers.

Past experience can include visual or graphic design, interaction design, and UX knowledge.

UX designers are more design focused. UX designers are often expected to design the actual visual and interactive elements of a product. That’s not to say that product designers don’t—but as a UX designer, expect to dig in a little more into the hands-on aspects of designing a user-friendly product.

Is your UX programme covers the next big thing in the tech industry - key to be more hireable?

UX design revolves around crafting a seamless and delightful user experience when interacting with a product or service. It goes beyond mere functionality and delves into how users perceive and connect with the offering. It encompasses the overseeing of end-to-end journey, starting from ideation to final design, testing, and delivery. Our course covers every aspect of product design, including discovery, UX research, agile project management, and business requirements.

While product design takes a holistic approach to the UX project of product development, UX design places emphasis on the user's complete journey, encompassing their emotions, goals, and motivations. Furthermore, you'll gain valuable insights into driving business success and generating organisational value.

Benefits of Agile in experience design

“No matter the size of your organisation, Agile approach enables you to be more efficient, better address your customers’ wants, and be more aligned with the organisation’s goals”
— IDNZ
  1. You get more done - The Agile working approach results in up to 60% more work done.

  2. You get the right things done - As a squad or an individual, you are developing ideas, scoring them, and then executing. It’s a team effort toward a team goal and agreed-upon priorities.

  3. You adapt to change quickly - UX designers have been dealing with change since the iteration of the product, but agile means your ability to adapt to change is much quicker and more thoughtful incrementally.

  4. You improve communications - Agile calls for teams to be aligned in their approach, and transparent in sharing what they’re working on. This leads to improved communication – and not just for the design team, but across departments including sales and senior management.
